Spring cleaning
2020 has been a crazy year, and unfortunately, 2021 seems to be following its footsteps for now. It's sometimes hard to find some grounding in everyday activities when constantly bombarded with new depressing news. The arrival of spring usually means the start of renting season for us. Although this year may be different, and we may not greet many guests, we are still working very hard to have everything in tip-top shape by the time summer, and hopefully, more guests arrive.
For us, spring cleaning is a massive task. It includes everything, from gardening to painting and moving furniture, to just throwing away chipped plates and replacing them with new ones. It takes weeks to have it all done, and it's strangely comforting to do something so ordinary and familiar during these crazy times. We know a lot of you will be forced to spend this spring in quarantine and your own homes, so we wanted to give you a couple of ideas on how to freshen up your space and have some fun while doing it.
So if you are looking for some inspiration to help you tackle your own home, here are five of our best tips.
Declutter – first thing first, to start cleaning, it's best to start with throwing away, donating, or selling all of the things you no longer use or need. It's amazing what a difference fewer things in your home can make. Do you know that wow feeling when you enter a hotel room or an apartment? A lot of it has to do with clear space
A fresh coat of paint does wonders – this tip doesn't apply to everyone as I'm sure most of you just rolled your eyes but if you are willing to try it you'll be amazed by the results. You don't need to go big if you don't have the time or money but even if you paint over just one wall or a piece of dated furniture it can make a big difference
Time can be your friend – to tell you the truth if you want something to be cleaned properly it takes time. If you have some carpet stains apply the detergent and then let it sit while you tackle something else. You can also deep clean your water cooker by leaving white vinegar or citrus acid overnight. Put just enough vinegar to cover the bottom then add water let it cook and leave it for a few hours or during the night. Come morning you are ready to go.
Multitask – double the efficiency cut on the time. One of my favorite things to do is to put my curtains in the washing machine (short cycle) while cleaning the windows. By the time the windows are cleaned the curtains are done and you can hang them immediately while wet which will save you time because you won't need to iron. You are welcome.
It's time for the finishing touches – a bouquet on your dining table or a couple of new plants in your garden or balcony are a great and inexpensive way to bring in some color to your space. A new set of towels in the bathroom or a new cushion on the sofa can also make a huge difference.
So here you go. Happy cleaning everyone.
